I actually just learned about this, and you may find it useful for preserving your battery in general, or at least making your computer faster til we install 7.
Open the start menu and type in “SystemPropertiesPerformance” (without quotes), and hit enter. A window will pop up and near the top of it you will see three general buttons. One of them is "adjust for best performance". select that, and watch Windows change, and speed way the hell up :]....and save battery life too.
